They had been waiting for me.

“I saw a droid shoot both of my brothers, with their bodies crashing to the ground. I was the only one who could have possibly survived from my squad. They were all droids, who just activate me when they need to, and thought that I felt nothing. I knew I could not tell anyone what really happened that day, or even thought about it, else I would be put in a pit like the ones where other sentient droids are. When I returned to the base on Coruscant, the days up to the way I became conscious were meaningless and lazy, I had gotten a lot of medals for rescuing the Jedi. My superiors in the army looked at me as if I were one of them, and thought about how I would be an exceptional officer. I started to become more and more discontent with my duties, but I stopped myself several times from thinking those things too much. I had no other feelings besides sadness. I was with my brothers while they died. Since then, nothing gave me pleasure outside of fighting. I did not even care for my own life. If I had died, who could care? Anyway, due to my lack of attention to my duty, I was given a special assignment by the chancellor. His orders had been given to me in person, and the Jedi themselves had recommended it. It seemed as the Jedi Council was having issues with a droid army that had their own sentient consciousness. Clone troopers have had one for a long time, but we are not truly sentient-that part of us stays under the control of the Jedi. This droid army was run by a character named Separ, or at least that was what they called him. There was a secret bunker under Coruscant where the Jedi were supposed to be finding a way to disable sentience in the army, and they asked if my special squad could help. I was told to spend a few days of training on Coruscant with my men, and then to send them down there before I went to this secret bunker in person. The training was an excuse, though; the real purpose was to keep me out of the mind of the Jedi. When we had arrived, we found out that the army was ready for us. More specifically, they had been waiting for me.”

Prompt: Write a short story about an angry clone trooper becoming conscious: “””It all began when I woke up after getting shot by a battle droid’

Manuel Fixes: Added 5 spaces for aesthetical reasons.

Author comment: The first of most likely many more short stories that I co-authored using the OpenAI GPT-3 Algorithm. The Idea is to give the AI as little context as possible (in this case only a short instruction for a story and the first sentence) and see what kind of setting and character development it comes up with.
